Its time for week 4 of the Finesmith Stylista Competition and Surrealism is the theme. Below are the rules.

"Finesmith Jewelry style about...." a challenging styling contest held every week at FRIDAY mornings 9amslt. The contest will run for 10 weeks and every week there's one unique theme that will test your creative stylings! Research the fashion and art styles using exclusively the Jewelries from Finesmith Jewelry. Create that one breath taking look that will take you to the finals. Interpret the theme into your own vision and let's see it on the runway.

Interview with a Designer, Barbarella Cioc of B! Fashions

I had the pleasure of chatting a bit with designer extraordinaire, Barbarella Cioc of B! Designs. Anyone that is into fashion design should visit her store if you haven't already.

Perla:  I have loved your shop since the first day I stepped foot into it Some of my favorite outfits are Mata Hari., Sapphirina and Raperonzola. Your store is one of the first places that comes to mind when I am looking for something different. Where do you get inspiration for your designs?


Barbarella: This is a hard question, because I can get inspiration in many different ways, it could be watching something that I like or an image, thinking about something nice, listening music...


Perla:  I wanted to ask specifically about Mata Hari. Was there a special reason you created that outfit?


Barbarella: There is not a special reason, but I remember the inspiration: I was watching some Greta Garbo old pictures, and I liked very much one of them, from the movie "Mata Hari", so I was inspired to make that kind of dress, that it's different from the one in picture, but has the same vintage and mysterious feeling for me.


Perla:  What are some of your favorite pieces in your store and why?

Barbarella: My favourites pieces are the best sellers! I'm joking! LOL
It's very hard to choose...One that is my favourite from ever, is an old outfit called "Abracadabra", but my preferred ones from new fall collection are "Chicchirichi" and "Coccode'"

Perla:  Do you have specific models for your print ads or do you model in your ads?

Barbarella: It depends, usually I model for the ads, but sometimes other models are in the ads.


Perla: Who is your favorite designer in RL?

Barbarella: In RL I like the greatest designers from the past, one for all: Valentino.


Perla: Do you have any upcoming fashion shows?

Barbarella: I've 2 fashion shows in October, with other designers. One is "JOL Trendy's Fall Passion Fashion Show" on October 29th with MEB and the other one is "Purple Rain Show" with many other designers for the anniversary of Solo2 Fashion Agency.


Perla: What is your favorite flavor of ice cream. laughs..(.joke question to lighten things up a bit)

Barbarella: Chocolate!


Perla: When I step into your store it is very hard for me to leave. Your designs are different and very upscale, but then you also have a section for casual clothes too. As a matter of fact I have a Jackie O outfit from your casual section. Do you have a preference in the style of clothes you design?

Barbarella: Yes, I prefer to design evening clothes and gown, it's more fun, because in second life you can design and wear dresses that it could be impossible wear in real life.
But I like design casual clothes too, because I always wear my own designs in second life, and I can't wear gowns in the morning! LOL

Perla: What encouragement can you give to people that want to learn to design clothes?

Don't do it! I don't want other competitors!!! LOL...I'm joking! Clothes design must be a passion, because it could be hard at beginning, but if you love it, it will give you a lot of fun and satisfaction.

Interview with Raven Pennyfeather, Owner and Designer of Rfyre

I had the pleasure of getting the opportunity to interview one of the most talented designers of SL. Read below for my chat with Raven Pennyfeather, Owner of Rfyre.


Perla: I would like to ask the exact pronunciation of your store name.? Is it Frye or R- Fire... or Rye. I have heard it pronounced many ways .


Raven: Thanks for asking the correct pronunciation is (Our-Fire) meaning an artist's fire/drive/desire to create.

Perla: Tell me a little about your shop and the types of clothing your designs?

Raven:  Our clothing and isle is all about the artistry. Providing the highest quality in design, emphasizing a touch dark elegance and ranges from ancient realms to futuristic attire.


Perla:  I remember a year ago I purchased the Nightwatch outfit and it did not fit my shape properly and you were kind enough to make one to custom fit my shape. Is this something you do regularly or did I luck up and catch you at the right time ?:-)


Raven: Our customers are our life-line and as such are extremely important. They are the ones who support the brand and as such deserve the same quality in service as we place into the work.


Perla: I have never seen a shop that has such a variety of clothing styles. What inspired you to create so many different types of clothing in one store?


Raven: As I have indicated in the past my inspirations comes from so many places and varied interests. They are also derived from some of our wonderful customers who take the time to send along suggestions with inspirational images and words.


Perla:  Do you model your clothes for the ads or do you have Rfyre models?

Raven: All of the above, lol. Most recently we had the pleasure to feature some of BOSL's finest modeling talent in our willow release and it was a joy and privilege working with them.

Perla:  I notice you design clothes for men and women. This is a great place for couples to come and shop together. Something for everyone.



Raven: Always. I love designing for both sexes and for the longest time men were under-represented here in SL.


Perla: . Do you have any fashion shows in the works?



Raven: Yes as a matter of fact. We are currently working with The Opium Fashion Agency for their Opium Tales- Circus of The Damned event scheduled for Oct 29th at 6pm and Oct 30 at noon


Perla: Is there anything additional you would like to say?


Raven: Just to thank you so much for your interest in RFyre and to express my gratitude at having such a great opportunity to share the love of my work with you and your readers.

Second Life to Real Life Love, Yula Finesmith's Story

How many of you believe you can meet and fall in love with someone online and it can develop into a real life relationship? Well I am a firm believer and can relate to Yula's story, so for anyone that thinks it is impossible read below. Yula was gracious enough to share her experience.

Perla: Did you think it possible to meet someone online and fall in love with them in real life?

Yula: Never, I thought it was ridiculous that this happens to people. I am a very realistic person. Very involved in real life with my family and friends. I never thought it would happen to me

Perla: But then it did happen to you. :-)

Yula: I was amazed to hear stories when I came to SL and see so many couples. I thought it was weird.

Yula: I was in my store right after it opened and he came in with one of the models. He had only been in SL for a week and hand dreads and funny pants so we started laughing together. I was going to get married in RL and did not think of falling in love.

Perla: You were engaged in RL at the time?

Yula: Yes, I was engaged with a ring on my finger and it actually was a pretty good relationship.

Perla: Wow, that is amazing.

Yula: Spliph and I got closer and we became friends and then a couple in SL. We started exploring and playing games in SL and had so much fun. I was always into making my jewelry and fashion and not playing the game.

Perla: Did he live in the same country?

Yula: I am from Israel and he was from the states.

Perla: It must have been difficult to tell your fiancée in RL

Yula: Yes, it was very hard and I told him I was not ready for marriage so we split up. 6 months me and Spliph were in SL together day and night and also meeting on Skype.

Perla: Well you really developed a strong connection.

Yula: I had never met a guy like him before. He was patient and generous and 6 years younger than me I am proud to say :-)

Perla: Woohooo.. How did you handle the time difference?

Yula: He would wake up every morning at 3am to talk to me for an hour and then wake up early before going to work and we talked again.

Perla: You guys had a solid routine.

Yula: We also had messenger and text messaged each other all day. It took a lot of commitment.

Yula: After 6 months we decided it was time to meet and we each made arrangements to take a flight to Barcelona, Spain. I kept thinking wow, what am I doing? what’s going to happen because it was virtual all this time and we never touched. I was afraid of attraction issues because people can look different on cam. The moment I saw him walk off the plane I ran into his arms just like in the movies.

Perla: It sounds too good to be true. Just like a movie. Wowww.

Yula: We stayed in Barcelona for one week visiting historic places as we are both big art lovers. On the last day of our trip we cried so much. This is how I knew our feelings were so real.

Perla : What happened next? Did he visit you in Israel?

Yula: A month later I took a flight to the states and the rest is history. We have been married for one and a half years now.

Perla: Well you really followed your heart and this is proof that people can find rl love online. When you meet someone online you become connected on a mental and emotional level. This is inspiration that if you open your heart to love anything is possible.

This reminds me of a song sung by Marvin Gaye " Ain't No Mountain High Enough, Ain't No Valley Low Enough. Ain't No River Wild Enough. To Keep Me From Getting To You Babe"







One thing that I have learned is we can think love away with our mind instead of opening our hearts.

Jewels From the Heart, 2010 Beauty and The Beast Jewelry Fair

Mesmerized is the first word that comes to mind when I arrived at the 2010 Beauty and the Beast Jewelry Fair. The first thing I noticed was the beautiful scenery, lush gardens, medieval buildings and castles. It was as if being transported back in time to a fairytale. The 4 sims have different themes as in forests, castles, fantasy, goth. There is something for everyone.  I felt like a kid in a candy store and my heart starting beating fast as it pulled me in the directions of the vendor booths.
The first place I stopped was Gems and Kisses and I ran into Leah Portland and LovelyMiwako7399. We chatted a bit about the wonderful booths and talented designers. These designers pour their hearts and souls into their jewelry and this was an excellent place to showcase their styles.

I continued to walk around and look at the fantastic displays and the wonderful buildings. It would have been easy for me to purchase something from every jewelry vendor at the fair. I felt like I was in an art museum standing and looking at each piece and the details. Also, kudos to the coordinators, builders and everyone that made this Jewelry fair possible. There is not enough space for me to list every vendor from every sim, but I took a few pictures. I most definitely will continue to visit the fair up until the last day of October 17th.

Another great aspect of the fair is the workshops and classes on jewelry making, music and live entertainment and a kissing booth...wowww..There is also an auction and all the proceeds will go to Oxfam.org that helps to find solutions to poverty and injustices around the world. Please visit this website to read about the humanistic work of this organization.

This fair was also a great place to meet people. I met Avandan Grantham and he mentioned that he is a big fan of Preston Gravois of Bennelong Designs. He said "specifically of Preston's Steampunk Jewelry." I made a special note to visit Bennelong Designs.

I could go on and on for days about the 2010 Beauty and the Beast Fair, but I encourage everyone to come and take a look. If nothing else just to admire the beauty and artistry of the designers. Hope to see you there!!
